Project Overview
Omega Analytic was engaged to attend the WA-DC Gas Plant on short notice to conduct a full chemical stock-take and inventory assessment of redundant chemicals and laboratory reagents that had been stored on-site for an extended period. Many of these products were aged, unused, and no longer required for operational activities, creating a potential safety and compliance risk for the facility.
The scope of work required a complete review of all chemical storage areas, identification of chemical types and quantities, and preparation of materials for safe disposal in accordance with site requirements and Australian Dangerous Goods (DG) regulations.
Scope of Work
Omega Analytic deployed experienced professional chemists to site to complete the following key tasks:
Conduct a full stock-take of all stored chemicals and reagents
Identify and record chemical names, quantities, container conditions, and storage compatibility
Classify and segregate chemicals based on hazard rating and DG classification
Assess aged and redundant products for disposal suitability
Safely package, label, and prepare DG-rated chemicals for transport and certified disposal
Consolidate and organise chemicals to streamline handover to an approved disposal contractor
Ensure all handling and packing activities were completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with site and regulatory requirements
Key Challenges
The chemicals had been stored for a long period, with varying container conditions and mixed storage environments. The project required careful handling, hazard awareness, and strict segregation of incompatible substances to eliminate risk during packing and transfer.
A key priority was ensuring the plant remained compliant and that all chemicals were made ready for disposal without disruption to operations.
Outcome & Results
The project was completed successfully with zero safety incidents and minimal operational impact. Omega Analytic delivered a complete and accurate chemical inventory and ensured all redundant and hazardous chemicals were safely prepared for disposal and handover to a certified waste contractor.
This work significantly improved site compliance, reduced chemical storage risk, and supported the client in maintaining safe and environmentally responsible chemical management practices.
